- Trio: any combination of piano, bass, drums, guitar, saxophone, flute, cello and vocals
- Quartet and Quintet: any combination of piano, bass, drums, guitar, trumpet, or saxophone, and vocals
MoonDancer is an eclectic, professional jazz, swing, and rhythm & blues band led by vocalist/pianist Cathy DeWitt. Cathy has been compared vocally with Anita O’Day, Doris Day, and Diana Krall, and she has performed with Dave Frishberg, Rob Bargad, Bruce Forman, and Bobby Sanabria. Tenor saxophonist Dave Sloane is a graduate of the University of Miami, where he backed up singers Lou Rawls, Harry Belafonte, Jack Jones and others. Bassist David Ottenberg, a graduate with a master’s degree in music, is constantly in demand, working in bands like the Omi Ajamu Trio and Unsafe Sax, as well as the University of Florida Chamber Orchestra. Drummer/sound engineer Rob Rothschild, often called on to play for touring musicians travelling through the state, has played with Lesley Gore, Billy J. Kramer and Lou Christy. Since 1982, Moondancer has been in demand for concerts, swing dances, festivals, weddings, corporate and cultural events. Recent performances include: the Cummer Museum Jazz Concert Series in Jacksonville, Jazz Up Dunnellon!, UF JazzFest, and concerts for the Gainesville Friends of Jazz. The band has been recorded and broadcast on several radio and television programs, including the national PBS show CD Highway. See MoonDancer in action.
Tapestry Rewoven! This band of many singers and a tight rhythm section faithfully reproduces the sound of Carole King’s landmark Tapestry album, along with many songs Carole King composed that were performed by other famous groups, including The Byrds, The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, The Cookies, The Shirelles, The Everly Brothers, and The Drifters.
Trio Fantastique features three veterans of the Gainesville music scene in a new and unique musical offering> This trio combines the flavors of new age, classical, folk and jazz into a tasty mixture of creative concert cuisine. Featuring the gifted French flutist Christine Alicot with Mark Billman on cello and Cathy DeWitt on piano, this group is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a sound that offers both elegance and magic.
Patchwork is made up of some of Gainesville’s finest female musicians. All veterans of many bands, Patchwork’s members joined together for the chance to sing and play acoustic music. Personnel consists of Janet Rucker on guitar, banjo, and vocals; Annie McPherson on acoustic bass; Jolene Jones on mandolin and vocals; award-winning multi-instrumentalist Tammy Murray on banjo, guitar, fiddle, and vocals; and Cathy DeWitt on guitar, piano, and vocals.
